Cerebras unveils CS-4 AI accelerator claiming up to 30x faster inference

The CS-4 rack-scale platform targets latency-sensitive AI workloads, delivering 750 petaflops of compute and up to 2 microseconds of wafer-to-wafer latency, while the company reported $180.1 million in Q2 revenue.

Cerebras Systems (CBRS) unveiled its CS-4 rack-scale AI accelerator platform on Aug. 18, positioning it as an alternative to GPU-based systems for AI inference as generative and agentic applications expand. The company says CS-4 can deliver up to 30 times faster inference than comparable GPU-based systems.

Built around three WSE-3 Turbo processors, CS-4 is described as providing 750 petaflops of AI compute, 7.2 terabits per second of I/O bandwidth, and 129.6 petabytes per second of memory bandwidth. Cerebras also claims the platform can support AI models exceeding 50 trillion parameters and reduce wafer-to-wafer latency to as little as two microseconds for latency-sensitive workloads.

According to coverage by Yahoo Finance, the launch arrives as Cerebras seeks credibility in AI inference, a segment where demand is rising as businesses deploy more complex AI use cases. The article also notes that Cerebras reported $180.1 million in revenue in its second quarter, while profitability remains a concern and the stock has shown volatility after its recent earnings report.

Cerebras is based in Sunnyvale, California, and develops specialized AI computing systems and processors, including its Wafer-Scale Engine technology that integrates compute and memory on a single wafer. The article says the company has a market capitalization of around $49.1 billion and that its shares have been volatile since its Nasdaq debut.
