Monad proposes wallet upgrade to separate addresses from controlling keys

The Ethereum-compatible network says its approach could let users update credentials, including quantum-resistant cryptography, without changing their wallet address or moving assets.

Monad has proposed a wallet-security upgrade that separates a wallet’s permanent address from the credentials used to control transactions, aiming to prevent users from being locked out if keys are lost or outdated, according to CoinDesk.

The design would allow accounts to keep operating under the same address while credentials could be added, replaced, or retired, which the proposal says could support passkeys, multiple signers, account recovery tools, and post-quantum security.

CoinDesk reports the proposal is still an early draft and does not yet include a detailed implementation specification.

Monad is an Ethereum-compatible blockchain focused on faster transaction processing, and the article notes its token was up about 2% on Tuesday, while its network has roughly $939 million in crypto locked across decentralized finance applications, including about $732 million in stablecoins and decentralized-exchange trading of about $329 million over the past 24 hours, per the outlet citing DefiLlama.
