Poland ends crypto registration basis as MiCA transition period ends
Poland’s Ministry of Finance said that after July 1, existing register sign-ups no longer give a legal basis for virtual asset service providers or crypto asset service providers.
CoinDesk discusses how the end of Europe’s MiCA transition period is set to reshape the continent’s crypto industry unevenly, with Poland facing a tougher adjustment than many EU peers.
The outlet says MiCA was intended to create a common regulatory framework across all 27 EU member states, aiming to increase consumer protections and give compliant digital asset businesses clearer rules for operating across borders.
According to CoinDesk, Poland’s domestic crypto industry had a large base of registered virtual asset service providers, but became caught between the new EU regime and domestic politics over how MiCA should be implemented.
CoinDesk reports that on July 1, Poland’s Ministry of Finance confirmed the MiCA transition period had ended, and that registration on Poland’s existing virtual currency register no longer provides the legal basis to operate as a VASP or CASP.
