Better and Coinbase roll out token-backed conforming mortgage for Coinbase One

The offer includes a 1% lender-funded closing cost credit, capped at $10,000, and expanded access went live Aug. 12.

Better Mortgage and Coinbase have expanded their token-backed, conforming mortgage program into general availability for Coinbase One members, letting approved borrowers pledge crypto assets during underwriting while keeping the loan structured under first-lien, Fannie Mae conforming guidelines.

According to HousingWire, eligible Coinbase One borrowers can receive a 1% lender-funded closing cost credit, capped at $10,000, applied across Better’s standard mortgages, home equity lines of credit, and refinances. The credit is paid by Better and reflected directly on the borrower’s closing disclosure.

The companies said the expanded rollout took effect Aug. 12, after an earlier waitlist opened in June 2026 to test demand for the crypto-backed product. HousingWire reports that early waitlist data showed 76% of respondents were already Coinbase One users, 60% planned to buy within six months, and the waitlist represented more than $260 million in projected loan volume.

Better and Coinbase also said the loans will be originated and serviced by Better and powered by Coinbase, with the program designed to allow collateral pledging without requiring borrowers to sell their crypto holdings. HousingWire quoted Better’s chief technology officer saying the partnership aims to broaden access to homeownership amid high interest rates, record home prices, and limited inventory.
