Polish Olympic Committee president detained in ZondaCrypto bribery probe

The investigation follows ZondaCrypto's April collapse after a liquidity crisis, and it alleges crypto-related prizes tied to Olympic sponsorships.

Polish authorities detained Radosław Piesiewicz, the president of the Polish Olympic Committee, as part of a bribery investigation involving the digital asset platform ZondaCrypto, according to The Block.

The Block reports that Piesiewicz was accused of accepting bribes in exchange for sponsorship deals, and that a separate report said ZondaCrypto's CEO provided him a watch worth more than $40,000.

Poland's Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek said prosecutors would provide more information after proceedings in Silesia are completed, the outlet added.

The Block also noted that ZondaCrypto collapsed in April following a liquidity crisis, and that earlier in the year Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk accused the crypto firm of links to the Russian mafia and secret services.
