Goolsbee says inflation remains the Fed’s main issue

Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee said inflation is still the Federal Reserve’s main issue right now in comments made during a CNBC interview at the Jackson Hole Symposium, according to FXStreet.

Goolsbee added that inflation persists longer than expected, and when asked about the number of FOMC meetings, he said he does not have a strong opinion on the topic.

FXStreet also outlined how the Fed’s policy framework ties into currency moves, noting that the central bank’s two mandates are price stability and full employment, and that adjusting interest rates can strengthen the US dollar when inflation runs above the Fed’s 2% target and weaken it when inflation falls or unemployment is too high.
