Launch Expeditionary Learning Charter signs 77,000-SF Brooklyn high school lease

The charter school will begin expanding in Sunset Park in fall 2027 and is taking over a building that previously operated as Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy.

Launch Expeditionary Learning Charter School has signed a 15-year lease for a 77,000-square-foot space at 5902 Sixth Avenue in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, moving to create a new high school there, Commercial Observer reports. The school is expected to start growing its student body in fall of 2027, using the site as its new dedicated campus.

The space was previously home to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy. While asking rent for the lease was not disclosed, Colliers data cited by the outlet put average office asking rent in Sunset Park at $26.43 per square foot in the second quarter of 2026.

The full-block property includes a 16,000-square-foot gymnasium, a cafeteria, a 7,600-square-foot auditorium, and outdoor recreation areas. OPEN Impact Real Estate represented the charter school in the transaction, with Cushman & Wakefield negotiating on behalf of the Redemptorist Fathers of New York.

Launch currently operates in Crown Heights at 1580 Dean Street, where it began as a middle school in 2012. Commercial Observer reports that in 2025 it opened its doors to high school students and is adding grades each year, serving ninth and 10th graders.
