Marshall Wace plans Tokyo office next year
The UK hedge fund manager expects to begin operations in the second half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval.
Marshall Wace, the London-based hedge fund manager with about $90 billion in assets, is preparing to open a Tokyo office next year, according to a report cited by Hedgeweek and attributed to Bloomberg.
The firm is expected to start with a small team of investment professionals in Japan, with operations potentially beginning in the second half of 2027, pending regulatory approval, the outlet said.
Marshall Wace has run Japan-focused strategies from Hong Kong for many years, with its Japan investment team currently based in Hong Kong. More than 100 of its approximately 750 employees were based in Asia as of late October 2025, working across regional and global strategies.
Hedgeweek also noted that moving investment capability directly into Tokyo would increase the firm’s on-the-ground presence in a market that has become more attractive to international hedge funds. The firm currently also has offices in Shanghai and Singapore.
