Zcash cryptography update cuts private transaction creation latency

Developers say the open source Zakura Common toolkit can drop private transaction creation time from over 3 seconds to under 200 milliseconds in some cases, without requiring a Zcash network upgrade.

CoinDesk reports Zcash developers released Zakura Common, an open source cryptography toolkit aimed at speeding up private transaction creation and related wallet operations.

The update is designed to reduce the time a wallet spends generating a private transaction from more than three seconds to under 200 milliseconds in some cases. CoinDesk says Zakura Common makes transaction creation more than 14 times faster on mobile devices and more than five times faster on desktops, while also accelerating wallet syncing and transaction verification.

CoinDesk also reports that Zakura Common supports faster cryptographic operations, with hashing more than 21 times faster, and the node work to check private transactions between four and eight times faster.

The changes do not require a Zcash network upgrade, since wallet developers can adopt the libraries on the network as it exists today, CoinDesk says. The report adds that Zakura moved to the new stack in version 1.3.0 and that Vizor Wallet is among the first to integrate it.
