Bond yields extend gains as oil and other factors weigh

Mortgage-rate related pressure may persist as yields broke long term highs and are edging higher again, with upcoming ISM and JOLTS data acting as a near-term catalyst.

Bond yields broke above long term highs and continued to move slightly higher again, as markets weighed the separate influence of oil prices and other drivers, according to Mortgage News Daily.

The outlet said there is not the same strong day to day intraday linkage between bonds and oil that it typically sees, though oil prices still rose, so their impact cannot be ruled out.

Looking ahead, Mortgage News Daily pointed to ongoing concerns beyond oil, including issuance and Federal Reserve policy, and said economic data will be a key risk or opportunity through the end of the week.

The next set of data is scheduled to begin at 10am ET with ISM and JOLTS, which could shape the bond backdrop relevant to mortgage rates.
