Netflix shares trail the S&P 500 over multiple time horizons

Netflix is down 12.8% year to date, and it has fallen 33.6% over the past 52 weeks, despite an early rebound from its mid-July low.

Netflix stock has underperformed the S&P 500 across both short and long stretches, according to analysis cited by Yahoo Finance. The outlet says Netflix is trading 35.5% below its 52-week high of $126.71 and is down 5.4% over the past three months.

Over the longer run, the gap is wider. Yahoo Finance notes that Netflix has plunged 33.6% in the past 52 weeks, compared with an 18.6% gain for the S&P 500 index.

The underperformance has carried into 2026 as well, with Netflix down 12.8% year to date versus a 12.7% advance for the index, the outlet adds. It also points to a technical trend, saying shares stayed below their 200-day moving average since mid-April.

Yahoo Finance says the stock has since reclaimed its 50-day moving average and climbed 25% from its mid-July 2026 low of $65.08, supported by a more attractive valuation, renewed institutional interest, including a new stake from Bill Ackman’s Pershing Square, and optimism around potential third-party content partnerships.
