Thailand SEC proposes rules for retail access to overseas crypto derivatives
The consultation is open until Sept. 30 and would restrict eligible products to those traded on centrally cleared exchanges overseen by specified international regulators or exchange groups.
Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed a framework to let intermediaries facilitate retail access to certain crypto derivatives traded overseas, according to Cointelegraph.
Under the proposal, qualifying products would need to match Thailand-listed crypto derivative criteria, including their underlying assets, maturity, leverage, and settlement methods.
The SEC would require the derivatives to trade on exchanges that use a central counterparty for clearing and that are supervised by a regulator affiliated with specified international regulatory or exchange groups, as the country continues work to bring crypto-linked products into its regulated capital markets.
Cointelegraph also reports the SEC said derivatives that do not meet the proposed conditions could only be offered to institutional investors, and it has not set an implementation date for the amendments. The consultation period runs until Sept. 30.
