Kalshi bans George Santos for life and suspends Laurie Buckhout
Kalshi said it permanently suspended Santos from trading and fined him $71,356, while Buckhout received a three-year suspension and a $2,590 penalty.
Kalshi permanently banned former US lawmaker George Santos from trading on its prediction market platform and imposed a three-year suspension on congressional candidate Laurie Buckhout, according to Cointelegraph.
The platform said its compliance department acted after investigations found the two used insider information related to event contracts that could be manipulated by their own actions.
Kalshi described Buckhout’s alleged involvement as her announcement of a candidacy in North Carolina’s 1st congressional district, which made her a market option for a related congressional election contract.
For Santos, Kalshi cited trading activity linked to his attendance at the State of the Union address in February 2026, and said both restrictions were tied to violations of its rules that prohibit traders from attempting to trade contracts where they influence the underlying event.
