Only 64% of Americans confident about retirement finances, survey finds
The Employee Benefit Research Institute and Greenwald Research found fewer than seven in 10 retirees have enough savings to cover an emergency, down from the prior year.

The survey also found that fewer than seven in 10 retirees say they have enough savings to cover an emergency, a decline from the year before, highlighting persistent concerns even among people already retired or near retirement.
The article framed retirement stress as sometimes coming from holding onto too many expenses or investments that people have not reviewed in years, rather than from having too little overall.
It then listed examples of items some retirees may consider selling to reduce stress, including an extra car, noting that car insurance averages $2,266 per year, according to Experian, and that maintenance issues on rarely used vehicles can add unexpected costs.
