Tether faces lawsuit over alleged freeze of 42.4 million USDT
Plaintiffs say Tether froze USDT on Oct. 30, 2025, after an informal U.S. law-enforcement request and before a seizure warrant was issued on Feb. 19.
Two Thai businessmen have sued Tether in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleging the stablecoin issuer froze 42.4 million USDT across 10 Ethereum addresses.
According to the Aug. 31 complaint cited by CoinDesk, the freeze occurred on Oct. 30, 2025, following what plaintiffs describe as an informal request from a U.S. law-enforcement agent, while a seizure warrant was not issued until Feb. 19.
The plaintiffs, Nutthawat Rukthammachalern and Natthawat Kasamvilas, say they acquired the USDT through secondary-market transactions and had no direct relationship with Tether.
They are asking the court to order Tether to remove the addresses from its blacklist and to prevent it from destroying the frozen tokens or issuing replacements to a government-controlled wallet before a final forfeiture ruling, while also seeking damages and related income from reserves backing the USDT.
