UK restaurants turn to loyalty and kid meal deals as dining costs rise
YouGov data cited by the outlet shows more than a third of Brits have cut back on restaurant visits, pushing eateries to use discounts, points and off-peak promotions to attract diners.
BBC Business reports that the rising cost of dining out in the UK is weighing on demand, citing YouGov’s latest Dining Out report that found more than a third of Brits have cut back on going to restaurants.
The outlet attributes higher menu prices to rising costs for food, energy, wages, and taxes, and says restaurateurs are responding with incentives intended to bring customers in, including loyalty points, birthday treats, and freebies.
BBC Business highlights examples such as Pizza Express Club’s tiered system of perks, Nando’s loyalty programme, and Tastecard, which offers discounts at hundreds of venues in exchange for an annual fee.
It also notes tactics beyond loyalty, including booking earlier or later sittings for lower bills and using apps like First Table, which provides 50% off food for first or last slots in participating restaurants, plus school holiday promotions that offer free or 1 pound meals for children with paying adults.
