US envoys meet Central Asian leaders during SCO summit in Bishkek

The outreach included separate meetings with Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan presidents on Monday in the Kyrgyz capital.

China and Russia gathered dozens of countries in Bishkek for the SCO summit as part of a push for a multipolar world order, while US envoys held separate meetings with Central Asian presidents during the same week.

According to SCMP Economy, US Senator Steve Daines and Sergio Gor, America’s special envoy for South and Central Asia, met Kyrgyzstan’s Sadyr Japarov, Tajikistan’s Emomali Rahmon, and Uzbekistan’s Shavkat Mirziyoyev separately in Bishkek on Monday.

The coverage said the diplomatic manoeuvring suggests the United States will continue outreach to the region and try to limit Beijing’s influence, but noted it would be unrealistic for Washington to force Central Asian countries to choose sides.

The SCO summit brought together the three Central Asian presidents alongside other leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
