ADM to add 700,000 metric tons of oilseed crush capacity by 2028-2029
The expansion at four US oilseed-crushing plants is budgeted at about $100 million and comes as ADM raised its 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to as high as $5.60.
Archer-Daniels-Midland plans to expand oilseed-crushing capacity at four US plants, adding about 700,000 metric tons by 2028 or 2029, as the company moves to scale a business it says posted its strongest quarter in years.
The upgrades will be carried out at facilities in Frankfort, Indiana, Deerfield, Missouri, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Spiritwood, North Dakota, with the latter operating as a joint venture with Marathon Petroleum. ADM also flagged six additional sites for potential future growth, and identified 10 US soy processing plants that could be expanded in total.
CEO Juan Luciano said the projects are intended as a relatively low-cost way to increase output, estimating the cost at roughly a quarter of what a brand-new facility would require. He also described the plan as a phased approach that leaves room to pull back if conditions deteriorate.
The announcement ties to ADM's recent earnings momentum: the company reported second-quarter adjusted EPS of $1.84, above the $1.44 analysts expected, and lifted its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $5.15 to $5.60 from $4.15 to $4.70. Operating profit in the ag services and oilseeds segment rose 129% year over year to $867 million, and crushing volumes increased about 5%.
