Chariot Re raises $700 million to expand life and annuity reinsurance
The Bermuda-based reinsurer says it has reinsured about $20 billion of liabilities since launching in July 2025.
Chariot Re has closed an oversubscribed $700 million equity and debt capital raise, lifting its total funding since launch to more than $2 billion, according to Coverager.
MetLife and General Atlantic, Chariot Re’s sponsors, participated in the round, alongside institutional investors led by Chubb. The reinsurer plans to use the financing to expand capacity for a growing pipeline of reinsurance opportunities.
Coverager reports that Chariot Re launched in July 2025 and has since reinsured approximately $20 billion of liabilities through three transactions.
In a statement, Cynthia Smith, Chariot Re’s chief executive officer, said the raise reflects business momentum and is intended to scale the platform while keeping a focus on disciplined underwriting and policyholder protection.
