DOJ seizes over $560,000 in crypto tied to Hamas fundraising
The DOJ said it used 2025 crypto warrants and took over Hamas-linked domains and servers, including Alqassam.ps, to intercept donations.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced it has seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency linked to Hamas, saying the action targeted terror financing enabled through crypto warrants issued in 2025. CoinDesk reports the DOJ framed the effort as a disruption of fundraising for Hamas’ Al-Qassam Brigades.
According to the DOJ, FBI agents took control of domains and servers used by the group, specifically Alqassam.ps, to intercept further crypto donations. The department also said investigators released five affidavits supporting the seizures.
Investigators used human intelligence to identify and trace rotating crypto addresses promoted through an encrypted group chat and a fundraising website, according to court documents cited by CoinDesk. The DOJ said an earlier operation recovered about $201,400 from wallets and accounts tied to a system that had moved more than $1.5 million since October 2024.
The DOJ said the operations also provided the FBI information on thousands of people who contacted Hamas-linked platforms to donate, including through both crypto and traditional payment methods.
