Hennessy Equity and Income Fund exits Equitable Holdings position

The fund sold its EQH stake during Q2 2026 after a soft stop-loss review, citing uneven earnings quality and mixed flows.

Hennessy Equity and Income Fund said it sold its position in Equitable Holdings, Inc. during the second quarter of 2026, according to the fund’s Q2 2026 investor letter highlighted by Yahoo Finance.

The letter attributes the exit to a “soft stop-loss review.” It also points to a lack of insider buying to reinforce conviction, while acknowledging Equitable continues to generate strong cash flow and return capital in a disciplined manner.

Despite that, the fund said Equitable’s core business has remained inconsistent, describing earnings quality as uneven and noting that flows were mixed.

The fund also cited ongoing pressure in Equitable’s individual life and retirement segments, and it referenced valuation concerns as mounting pressures. At the time of Yahoo Finance’s write-up, Equitable shares closed at $50.13 on August 31, 2026, and traded in a 52-week range of $35.19 to $55.15.
