Nvidia to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion
The deal values Nvidia’s purchase at about $11.9 billion for investors and could add up to $1 billion for employee retention, with a planned close in 2027.
Nvidia has agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, expanding the chipmaker’s footprint in the software and tools developers use to build and deploy artificial intelligence models, Cointelegraph reports. In Nvidia’s announcement, CEO Jensen Huang said Hugging Face serves more than 18 million developers and hosts over 3 million models. Huang also said the platform will remain open for the broader AI ecosystem, with developers free to choose their models, frameworks, cloud providers and computing platforms. The companies said Nvidia hardware will not be required to build or deploy through Hugging Face, and Hugging Face will continue supporting models from other developers plus multiple cloud and accelerator providers. Nvidia said its infrastructure and engineering capabilities could help improve Hugging Face’s reliability, safety, model evaluation, inference and deployment. Cointelegraph also reported that Nvidia will pay about $11.9 billion to Hugging Face investors and may offer up to $1 billion through an equity-based retention program for employees who join Nvidia. The transaction is expected to close in 2027, and the announcement did not specify the regulatory approvals needed or a more precise closing date.
