Anthropic files draft SEC registration, moving toward a major IPO
The AI company said it expects its first operating profit of about $559 million in Q2 2026, while its revenue run rate accelerated to about $47 billion by May.
Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude chatbot, has taken its first formal step toward going public by filing a draft registration statement with the SEC on June 1, 2026, according to ETF Trends.
The filing comes after a recent funding round that valued the company at roughly $965 billion. ETF Trends also cites press reports suggesting a base case of $1 trillion or more if it lists this fall, and notes Anthropic was founded in 2021 by Dario and Daniela Amodei, with about 3,500 employees.
ETF Trends reports that Anthropic’s business is more enterprise-focused than consumer, with the company saying about 80% of revenue comes from business customers. The outlet also says Anthropic’s annualized revenue run rate rose from about $9 billion at the end of 2025 to roughly $30 billion in April 2026, and past $47 billion by May.
On profitability and costs, ETF Trends says Anthropic expected its first operating profit of about $559 million in the second quarter of 2026. The outlet adds that the company cut its 2025 gross-margin projection to about 40% from 50% and has committed tens of billions of dollars toward future computing capacity, keeping cash burn and compute dependence central risks ahead of any listing.
