Uber and Zipline expand autonomous drone delivery for Uber Eats
The partnership targets one million drone deliveries per day by the end of 2029, with first deployments slated to begin later in Zipline’s U.S. markets before expanding to dozens of additional cities.
Uber Technologies and Zipline announced a strategic partnership to bring autonomous drone delivery to Uber Eats customers across the United States, alongside Uber making a strategic investment in Zipline, according to ETF Trends.
The companies’ headline goal is to reach one million drone deliveries per day by the end of 2029. First deployments are planned to begin later this year in Zipline’s existing U.S. markets before expanding to dozens of additional cities, ETF Trends said.
ETF Trends frames the move as part of a longer runway for drone delivery, noting that Zipline’s origins date to March 2014 in Half Moon Bay, California, with real-world blood delivery operations beginning in late 2016 in rural Rwanda.
The outlet also highlights that Zipline expanded the approach to Ghana in 2019, partnering with governments and Gavi to serve health facilities across the region, positioning drone logistics as technology built for difficult delivery conditions before it reached consumer delivery apps.
