Arm boss says AI could help cure cancer in humans' lifetimes
Rene Haas also said AI robot adoption could be held back by a chip shortage for data centres, while he doubted the UK could manufacture advanced chips in the future.
Arm Holdings chief executive Rene Haas said artificial intelligence will be able to help find a cancer cure within the lifetimes of people alive today, even though current modelling work is too complex for today’s computers.
Speaking to the BBC, Haas said computers will eventually solve the problem as AI models become more sophisticated and run on more capable systems, adding that the real advance will come as more relevant data is fed into the models.
Haas also predicted widespread humanoid robots could arrive within about five years, but said growth is being slowed by a shortage of chips needed to build data centres.
He expressed skepticism about the idea that chips could be manufactured in the UK, noting Arm’s role as a chip designer whose CPUs are used across phones, cars, smartwatches and other devices.
