Biopharma stocks slide after Novartis Lp(a) drug trial failure
The selloff follows concerns that Lp(a) lowering may not deliver the hoped for reduction in some fatal cardiovascular events.
Novartis has suffered a failed trial for a cholesterol-related drug targeting Lp(a), and the setback helped trigger a broad selloff across biopharma stocks, MarketWatch reports.
The company, along with several other drugmakers, had been betting that lowering Lp(a) would reduce the risk of sometimes fatal cardiovascular events.
