CI Capital plans Egypt’s first equity-focused hedge fund

The fund targets EGP250m in assets in its first year and is expected to launch before the end of 2026 as Egypt opens hedge fund strategies to wider tools.

CI Capital Asset Management is preparing to launch what it expects will be Egypt’s first equity-focused hedge fund, with a target of EGP250m in assets during its first year, according to reporting by Hedgeweek that cites a report by EnterpriseAM.

The planned launch is tied to a new regulatory framework introduced by Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority, which opened the country’s investment industry to alternative fund strategies, including hedge funds.

Hedgeweek said the new rules give hedge funds access to a broader set of investment and trading tools than traditional mutual funds, including derivatives and margin trading, with short selling expected once market infrastructure is in place.

CI Capital expects the product could launch before the end of 2026 and is positioning it for demand from both retail and institutional investors seeking more flexibility than conventional mutual funds, while aiming to establish an early foothold in a potentially new local segment of the asset-management industry.
