Ethereum targets quantum-safe security by December 2029 via Hegotá

Ethereum’s Foundation Protocol cluster published a tier list of 62 EIPs for Hegotá, labeling FOCIL on consensus and Frame Transactions on execution as must-ship items.

Ethereum is aiming for full post-quantum security by December 2029 as it develops the Hegotá upgrade, with the Ethereum Foundation Protocol cluster identifying key Ethereum Improvement Proposals to keep the roadmap on schedule, according to The Block.

The Foundation published a tier list evaluating 62 EIPs for Hegotá and set a December 2029 target for quantum resistance. It rated two proposals as S-tier, or “must-ship,” which are positioned as defining the fork and shaping the upgrade schedule.

On the consensus layer, FOCIL, or Fork-Choice Enforced Inclusion Lists, EIP-7805, was labeled must-ship, with the goal of strengthening censorship resistance by letting a validator committee force inclusion of valid public mempool transactions, reducing the ability of a dominant builder to censor them.

On the execution layer, Frame Transactions, EIP-8141, also received the must-ship label, designed to make account abstraction native to Ethereum to improve security and post-quantum readiness by splitting transactions into programmable frames for validation, gas payment, and execution. The Block reports that the Foundation said the fork’s core engineering commitment is delivering both headliners safely and testing how they interact.
