IGV flashes rare momentum signal after a 24.5% five-week surge

The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF IGV rose 24.5% over five weeks, and the thrust-type momentum signal has only appeared three other times in its history.

Yahoo Finance reports that the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF, IGV, recently triggered a rare technical momentum “Thrust” signal after a sharp move higher.

The outlet said the signal was tied to an extraordinary five-week rate of change and that, based on historical data highlighted by research firm All Star Charts, it has occurred only three other times in the ETF’s history, in 2002, 2009, and 2020.

Yahoo Finance also noted that IGV’s performance in 2026 has come after many holdings suffered steep drawdowns, with the publication pointing to companies down at least 30% over the past 52 weeks representing about one-fifth of the ETF’s roster.

The article added that it views the ETF’s current setup as more of a trade than a longer-term call, citing what it described as recovery-like price action since around $75 and valuation concerns, including a portfolio-wide trailing earnings multiple around 35x and the presence of names without earnings.
