Robinhood plans weekend trading window for select stocks and ETFs

The service is set to run from Sunday at 8 p.m. ET through Friday at 8 p.m., while the regular 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET session will keep setting the reference price and driving T+1 settlement timing.

Robinhood Markets is moving toward more continuous access for retail investors by planning weekend trading for a selected list of stocks and exchange-traded funds, a first for modern US equity markets, according to LiveMint Markets.

The proposed window would run from Sunday at 8 p.m. New York time through Friday at 8 p.m., with orders routed to a trading venue operated by Bruce Markets, the outlet reported.

Robinhood said longer hours do not eliminate the traditional exchange session. The conventional US equity session is still expected to run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. New York time, and the 4 p.m. close is described as important because it sets reference prices, index levels, corporate actions and the T+1 settlement clock.

LiveMint Markets also noted that Robinhood already offers 24-hour weekday trading that resets at 8 p.m. ET, and the weekend initiative is intended to fill the Friday-to-Sunday gap.
