Instagram creators report account takedowns tied to fake copyright claims

Instagram creators say they have lost money or had their accounts suspended after receiving fake copyright claims filed to Meta-owned Instagram, according to BBC Business.
The complaints are often followed by demands for ransom payments to withdraw the claims, creators say, with repeated submissions capable of leading to account bans.
One user with 1.5 million followers told the BBC they paid $50 in cryptocurrency to restore an account, after Meta’s appeal process was described as slow enough to cost thousands in lost income.
The BBC cited a Meta spokesperson saying the company understands the frustration and that its systems are designed to protect against scams, while creators said Meta does not verify the authenticity of complaints when they are submitted and their appeals can take weeks, with some claiming faster outcomes only after paying a monthly fee.
