Iran threatens maritime exclusion zone across Persian Gulf

The warning came as the US said its warships evaded any missile attacks near the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials warned that Tehran would respond to what it calls US economic warfare by imposing a maritime exclusion zone across the Persian Gulf, with the area extending to the edge of the US naval blockade around Iranian ports.

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said the zone would cover the blockade perimeter and noted that Washington has received a warning from Iran's new missiles. He added that Iran has fundamentally recalibrated its military posture toward American forces.

Rezaei was likely referring to a Qassem Basir ballistic missile reported by Iranian media as being fired at US warships near the Strait of Hormuz, though the US military said its warships evaded any missile attacks.
