Mexico's light-vehicle industry showed mixed performance in August, with production falling from a year earlier but exports increasing, according to new data from Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), as carried by Yahoo Finance.

Mexico produced 344,940 light vehicles during August, down 1.4% from 349,951 a year earlier. Exports totaled 300,475 vehicles, up 1.3% from 296,734 in August 2025, an increase of 3,741 vehicles year over year.

For the year to date, exports are essentially flat, with Mexico shipping 2.25 million light vehicles from January through August, down 0.06%, or 1,262 vehicles, versus the same period in 2025.

The United States remained the industry's primary destination, receiving 1.72 million light vehicles from Mexico in the first eight months of 2026, representing 76.3% of all vehicle exports, according to the data.
