Carbon appoints Phil Wooldridge to lead US casualty underwriting
The role takes effect 28 September 2026, as Carbon aims to expand its US long-tail casualty business alongside its Graphene data and analytics push.
Carbon Underwriting Limited, a delegated authority underwriting specialist with its own Lloyd’s syndicate, has appointed Phil Wooldridge as Head of US Casualty and Deputy Active Underwriter, effective 28 September 2026.
In the new role, Wooldridge will focus on growing Carbon’s book of business for US policies covering long-tail casualty risks, working with Jeff Bright, Underwriting Director for short-tail US policies, and reporting to Rob Crocker, Chief Underwriting Officer at Carbon.
The appointment supports Carbon’s strategy to strengthen its presence in US casualty lines. It also follows a period of rapid expansion, with revenues rising from GBP 150 million to GBP 471 million between 2023 and 2026, and a recent growth equity investment from FTV Capital that is intended to back international expansion, especially in the US.
Carbon also said Wooldridge’s leadership will be key as it accelerates development of its Graphene data and analytics ecosystem. Wooldridge brings more than three decades of underwriting experience, most recently at Gallagher Re as Head of Reinsurance for programme solutions, and previously in roles including Head of London US Casualty at SiriusPoint Ltd. and Syndicate Chief Underwriting Officer of Reinsurance at MS Amlin.
