Coinbase renames Base App to Coinbase Wallet as it shifts to trading
The wallet is built for onchain trading and now supports more than 10 networks, including Robinhood Chain and Monad, plus perpetual futures and prediction markets.
Coinbase is reverting its Base App name back to Coinbase Wallet, reversing a change made just over a year ago as it refocuses the self-custodial product on trading and broader access to assets across multiple blockchain networks, according to The Block.
The Block reports that Coinbase Wallet will serve as a “test kitchen” for products and assets that may not be available through Coinbase’s centralized exchange. The wallet already supports more than 10 networks, including Robinhood Chain and Monad, and includes perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid, along with prediction markets and tokenized stocks.
Because Coinbase Wallet trading happens onchain, Ryan Kass, Head of Coinbase Wallet Product, told The Block that users can also follow traders within the app to “gain additional alpha.” Coinbase says the shift reflects Base App evolving into a broader multichain trading platform, leading it to bring back the Coinbase Wallet branding while keeping elements of the Base App.
Coinbase Wallet remains self-custodial, with users retaining their own keys. Coinbase also positions the product around “no KYC, no waiting, and no borders,” while noting some features can be geographically restricted, and it says the app detects and hides scam or malicious tokens.
