MFS launches two active short-duration income ETFs
The MFS Active Short Duration Income ETF and MFS Active Short Muni Bond ETF debut with net expense ratios of 0.25% and target short effective durations, up to three years for the muni fund.
MFS Investment Management expanded its ETF lineup on September 10 with two newly launched active income funds focused on short-duration fixed income exposure, according to ETF Trends.
The first is the MFS Active Short Duration Income ETF (MFSD), which has a net expense ratio of 0.25%. The fund aims to deliver income and capital appreciation through investments in short-duration bonds, including high-quality corporate bonds and an allocation to structured debt, while targeting a dollar-weighted average duration similar to the Bloomberg 1-5 Year Government/Credit Bond Index, give or take one year.
The second launch is the MFS Active Short Muni Bond ETF (MFSX), an actively managed municipal bond fund with a net expense ratio of 0.25%. MFSX seeks income exempt from U.S. federal income tax and targets a dollar-weighted effective duration no longer than three years, using both bottom-up and macro analysis while considering valuation and risk.
ETF Trends also noted that the new funds join a growing MFS roster, including the MFS Blended Research International Equity ETF (BRIE), which recently crossed the $500 million AUM threshold and gained more than $300 million in net flows over the prior six months as of September 8, 2026.
