More than 1,000 new ETFs launched in 2026 as industry accelerates
The State Street SPDR UC Investments 90/10 Endowment Strategy Index ETF (UCBG) opened with $2.5 billion, while August added 130 to 150 new funds.
ETF Trends’ ETF Prime highlighted a record year for new fund launches, with VettaFi’s Kirsten Chang saying the industry has already surpassed 1,000 new ETF launches in 2026.
Chang said 2026 is tracking about 52% ahead of last year’s pace, with August alone seeing 130 to 150 new funds debut. She added that active strategies account for more than 80% of new launches, and more than 30% involve leverage.
The segment also pointed to rapid scale among issuers, including Corgi, which has produced 195 launches this year, nearly 20% of the total, enabled by automated, AI-driven fund manufacturing. Chang said that 17 new ETFs have already crossed $1 billion in assets, with another 16 topping $500 million.
ETF Prime also cited large seeding and product variety, including the State Street SPDR UC Investments 90/10 Endowment Strategy Index ETF (UCBG), seeded with $2.5 billion and allocating 90% to S&P 500 stocks and 10% to short-duration investment-grade bonds. ETF Prime further discussed a structured-product ETF offering up to 20% downside protection and another strategy targeting a 17.5% coupon, plus Bloomberg Intelligence’s Eric Balchunas noting Vanguard’s first index trust marks its 50th anniversary.
