Ryanair says it will dispute passenger claim after midflight window incident

The airline says the traveler was “sucked towards” the window, while the US NTSB is investigating after a window broke on a July 10 flight.

Ryanair said it will dispute a passenger’s account of a midflight incident in which the airline claims the traveler was pulled toward, but not out of, a broken window. Guardian Business reports that Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary said the airline is “disputing” any suggestion that a part of the passenger’s body was sucked out of the window.

According to the report, the passenger, Ljubisa Karović, 61, suffered neck and shoulder injuries after the window broke during a flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen near Munich, Germany, on July 10.

O’Leary said the passenger was “certainly sucked towards the window, but he didn’t get out the window,” and added that the company will await findings from the US National Transportation Safety Board. The outlet also notes the NTSB is investigating the incident, with Ryanair participating alongside Boeing and GE on the engine side.
