Adaptive Biotechnologies highlights updated NCCN guidance for myeloma MRD
NCCN updates name clonoSEQ and broaden when clinicians should assess MRD, potentially increasing testing frequency during maintenance and after later treatment lines.
Adaptive Biotechnologies (NASDAQ: ADPT) pointed to updated National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) multiple myeloma guidelines released September 17, saying the recommendations name clonoSEQ and expand the testing time points. The company said the update includes annual assessments during maintenance and additional testing after later treatment lines.
The company framed the change as supportive of monitoring minimal residual disease, or MRD, focusing on very small amounts of remaining cancer after therapy. Adaptive Biotechnologies said the preferred sensitivity target is one cancer cell in one million cells, and that one in 100,000 is the recommended minimum, with the guidelines also allowing multicolor flow cytometry.
Adaptive said the commercial impact could come from higher testing frequency across a patient's treatment journey, including repeat orders from patients already using clonoSEQ. The company also noted that the guidelines cover later care pathways such as CAR T-cell therapy, which may help sustain testing relationships as treatment changes.
Adaptive Biotechnologies added that Medicare already covers clonoSEQ for multiple myeloma, and that the updated, more explicit clinical recommendations could support conversations with physicians and payers. It also cited prior performance as context, including a 43% year-over-year increase in second-quarter clonoSEQ volume to 36,111 tests delivered, MRD business revenue up 33% to $66.2 million, and full-year MRD revenue guidance raised to $268 million to $278 million in July, according to Yahoo Finance.
