Alibaba unveils Zhenwu V900 AI accelerator, targeting mass production in 2027

The chip is pitched as about three times faster than Alibaba’s prior accelerator, and the company also outlined plans to scale global data center capacity above 20 gigawatts by 2032.

Alibaba used its September 22 developer conference to showcase the Zhenwu V900 AI accelerator, saying it delivers roughly three times the performance of its predecessor and is scheduled for mass production in early 2027, according to Yahoo Finance.

Alibaba also discussed scaling its Qwen model roadmap to 5 trillion to 10 trillion parameters, while projecting expansion of global data center capacity above 20 gigawatts by 2032.

In the same coverage, Yahoo Finance framed the competitive impact for Nvidia around the China market, arguing the key question is whether a protected local ecosystem becomes strong enough that customers stop waiting for Nvidia’s return.

The article noted potential risks to Alibaba’s pitch, including that the V900 performance claims come from Alibaba and mass production is not until 2027, with additional execution factors such as yields, software tooling, memory supply, and developer adoption potentially affecting outcomes.
