August new-home sales rise 6.4% as purchases top estimates

August sales totaled 0.684 million, up from a revised July level of 0.643 million after the prior month was adjusted from 0.607 million.

US new-home sales increased in August and beat market expectations, according to figures released jointly by the US Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Forexlive reported that August sales came in at 0.684 million versus a 0.615 million estimate.

The prior month was revised higher, with July new-home sales adjusted to 0.643 million from 0.607 million, changing the basis for measuring the month-over-month gain.

On that revised comparison, August sales were up 6.4% from July.
