Intel confidentially files for a US IPO of Altera stake
The filing follows Altera’s September 15 move and could raise more than $2 billion, while Intel says it needs capital for foundry expansion and its CPU turnaround.
Intel is heading toward a fresh public-market valuation for Altera, after the programmable-chip company confidentially filed for a U.S. initial public offering on September 15, according to Yahoo Finance. The report says Reuters previously estimated the deal could raise more than $2 billion.
Altera previously sold control out of Intel last year. Silver Lake owns 51% after investing $4.46 billion for control, while Intel retains 49%, so an Altera IPO could crystallize value for Intel’s remaining interest.
The report frames the move as timely for Intel’s broader capital needs. Yahoo Finance notes Intel is funding major foundry expansion while it works to restore competitiveness in conventional CPUs and advanced manufacturing.
Altera’s business spans programmable chips used in industrial, communications, aerospace and data-center markets, and management has projected mid-20% revenue growth in 2026, the outlet adds. The article also points to debate over whether that growth will be genuinely AI-driven, given how quickly investor demand can outpace operating performance in AI-labeled assets.
