Dollar slips as oil eases, yen rises after Japan comments
Crude prices fell more than 2%, while the yen gained after Japan said Tokyo and Washington remain aligned on the stance behind July's joint intervention.
The dollar fell on Friday after oil prices eased, while the yen rose following remarks from Japan about coordination with Washington tied to July's joint intervention, according to Reuters.
Oil slid more than 2% as the market weighed a potential US-Iran truce against supply risks from attacks by Houthi fighters on Saudi Arabia, though global prices remained above $100 a barrel.
Even with the day’s dollar drop, the currency was still set for a second straight weekly advance as rate hike expectations continued to grow. Reuters said central bank officials’ comments about inflation supported a more aggressive path for monetary policy after the prior 25 basis point hike, boosting US Treasury yields.
