Freddie Mac data show US 30-year mortgage rate averages 7.03%

The average was up from 6.30% a year earlier, the highest level since January 16, according to Freddie Mac.

US 30-year fixed mortgage rates have topped 7.0% after averaging 7.03% as of Thursday, according to data cited by Freddie Mac, per SCMP Economy.

The 7.03% average marks a sharp rise from 6.30% in the same period a year earlier, and it is the highest level since January 16, shortly before Donald Trump returned to the White House.

With US voters facing high costs of living ahead of the November midterm elections, affordability concerns are highlighted as a key issue, SCMP Economy said.
