Majority opposes shifting public land to states for housing

The July LANDTHINK Pulse found 9% strongly support selling public land for housing, while most respondents say housing has become more unaffordable in their communities.

LandThink’s July LANDTHINK Pulse results show public support is low for efforts to use federal land to address housing affordability, with 64% of respondents saying they strongly oppose transferring public land to states or localities, and 11% saying they somewhat oppose it.

Only 12% of respondents said they somewhat support using public land to solve the housing crisis, while just 9% said they strongly support selling public land for housing, according to the poll results shared by LandThink.

The article also cites broader survey findings on affordability, saying almost three-quarters of Americans report housing has grown more unaffordable in their communities in recent years.

LandThink notes that renters are spending over a third of their income on rent monthly, and it says a homebuyer today needs to earn $121,400 a year to afford a typical home, based on the cited poll.
