Non-retirees increasingly worry about outliving their assets, survey finds

Schroders data shows 52% of non-retired Americans are concerned or very concerned about outliving assets, even as 45% plan to claim Social Security before age 67.

Schroders 2026 U.S. Retirement Survey found that 52% of non-retired Americans are concerned or very concerned about outliving their assets in retirement, HousingWire reports.

Despite that worry, 45% of respondents said they plan to claim Social Security before age 67, the full retirement age for people born in 1960 or later, while just 10% said they plan to wait until age 70 for the maximum monthly benefit.

The survey estimated non-retired Americans need $5,094 per month, and it found many rely on cash savings and 401(k)s, according to HousingWire.

Among retirees, 64% regret having insufficient planning and 58% said they do not know how long their savings will last, HousingWire reports.
