Somerset council rejects residents’ Saxonvale regeneration bid
Residents in Frome, Somerset, had raised nearly £1m for the Mayday Saxonvale community-led regeneration plan for a brownfield town centre site.
The project aimed to deliver homes, workspaces, a riverside park, and a lido on a 5-hectare, or 12-acre, area, supported by more than 1,000 residents.
The Guardian Business says Somerset council instead agreed a deal with a London-based real estate investment company based in Soho, central London, rather than selling the site to the community-led project.
The article also notes protests outside the town hall ahead of the council meeting that decided the development site’s future.
