South Korea data set to support a wider trade surplus outlook

ING expects South Korea’s August industrial production to rise 4.5% year over year, alongside forecasts for headline CPI to cool to 3.0% in September.

ING’s Asia-Pacific research says South Korea’s upcoming economic data should point to stronger industrial production and a wider trade surplus, even as both export and import growth moderate, according to FXStreet.

The research highlights technology and semiconductor exports as key factors supporting the surplus, while also pointing to inflation easing, with headline CPI expected to slow to 3.0% year over year in September and core inflation seen decelerating more sharply to 2.8%.

FXStreet also cites the ING view that industrial production growth is expected to accelerate to 4.5% year over year in August, from 3.6% in July, with monthly output forecast to rise 0.5%.
