VA lending presents growth opportunity for mortgage brokers

Polygon Research analysis of HMDA data cited 2025 VA denials at 8.2%.

HousingWire reports that mortgage brokers can expand into underserved VA markets by becoming VA specialists, but must manage key compliance steps, including entitlement accuracy.

According to HousingWire, a Polygon Research review of HMDA data cited 2025 VA denials at 8.2%, and panelists discussed appraisal challenge options as well as using local targeting data.

HousingWire also reports that panelist Gay Veale, president of Colorado-based Guidon Mortgage Co., said mistakes in a veteran’s entitlement can affect their ability to use VA loan benefits in the future.

The outlet adds that the panel was based on findings from a white paper developed with Polygon Research, drawing on 138 million records from the Home Mort system, presented during the AIME Fuse event in Austin.
