Three hikers fall ill on Hong Kong trails as temperatures hit 33 C
Authorities said one 25-year-old was suspected of heatstroke and was airlifted to Ruttonjee Hospital after being found on a Sai Kung hiking route around noon.
At least three hikers were reported ill on Hong Kong countryside trails on Sunday as temperatures in parts of the city climbed to 33 degrees Celsius, according to SCMP Economy.
The report said a 25-year-old visitor was suspected of suffering from heatstroke while hiking with friends on the High Island Reservoir East Dam-Po Pin Chau route in Sai Kung at about noon.
A government helicopter airlifted the visitor to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai for treatment, SCMP Economy reported.
The route is described as one of Hong Kong’s best-known hikes, drawing large numbers of visitors for views of Unesco-listed volcanic rock formations and Po Pin Chau sea stacks.
